Abstract
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an immune-mediated acquired peripheral neuropathy characterized by classic clinical features of progressive limb weakness, areflexia, and large fiber sensory loss. In most cases, the diagnosis can be confidently established by clinical and electrodiagnostic criteria containing dem yelination features. A response to immune therapies such as corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, and plasma exchange can be a supportive diagnostic feature. In addition to classic CIDP, a number of clinical variants of CIDP have been described and should be recognized because these disorders may respond to treatment and early diagnosis and treatment can change the course and prognosis.
